De zoektocht naar de essentie van onze identiteit resulteert in een unieke bewegingstaal van hedendaagse dans en hiphop.

De komende jaren zet Club Guy & Roni in de kleine zaal talent in de spotlights waarmee het gezelschap zich verwant voelt. In de eerste editie staan choreografen Dunja Jocic en Kwame Asafo-Adjei centraal.

In samenwerking met huisschrijver van het Noord Nederlands Toneel Rik van den Bos zoekt Dunja Jocic naar de essentie van wat onze identiteit bepaalt – is dat onze ziel, of juist ons lichaam? In een nabije toekomst krijgt een lichaam een nieuwe ziel geüpload. Zo ontstaat een strijd tussen dans en tekst en tussen wie er eigenaar is van het nieuw ontstane wezen.

Dunja Jocic

Dunja Jocic maakte lang deel uit van het ensemble van Club Guy & Roni, maar timmert inmiddels stevig zelf aan de weg als choreograaf en filmmaker. Inmiddels kreeg haar werk erkenning en ontving zij diverse onderscheidingen, o.a. de Prijs van de Nederlandse Dansdagen, BNG Bank Dansprijs en een nominatie voor de ‘Zwaan’ (meest indrukwekkende dansprestatie). Haar film ‘Bird’ won de Cinedans Audience Award.

Kwame Asafo-Adjei

De Britse choreograaf van Ghanese afkomst Kwame Asafo-Adjei combineert in zijn werk hedendaagse dans en hip-hop, met een unieke bewegingstaal als resultaat. Asafo won in 2019 de XL Production Award van de RIDCC met zijn choreografie Family Honour -een sterk gestileerd gevecht van snelle armen en handen, die hij voor deze double bill herbewerkt. De jury was enthousiast over de filmische stijl en het sociale engagement van deze bijzondere jonge maker.

Club Guy & Roni invites shines the spotlight on great Dutch and international talent in the small hall. 

Club Guy & Roni + RIDCC

Club Guy & Roni is inviting dance makers they feel a connection with, to make new work as part of the company's mission to support and guide talented creators and expose them to a wider audience. Choreographers Dunja Jocic and Kwame Asafo-Adjei will feature in this special double billing.

Dunja Jocic - The previous owner 

Dunja Jocic spent years in the Club Guy & Roni ensemble, but has now become an independent choreographer and filmmaker. She has won multiple awards for her work as a choreographer and dancer. She recently won a “Zwaan award” (2021), one of the most prestigious dance awards, for her performance ­The Panther. The jury named Jocic's work the 'most impressive dance production'.

In collaboration with Rik van den Bos, resident writer at Noord Nederlands Toneel, Jocic explores the idea of transhumanism. In a near future, the mind of a dying man is uploaded into a young body, spurring a battle between dance and text over who owns the newly created being. 

Kwame Asafo-Adjei - Lubeck 

British choreographer Kwame Asafo-Adjei blends contemporary dance and hip-hop with his Ghanaian heritage in his work to create a distinct, unique approach to movement. Asafo won the RIDCC's unique XL Production Award in 2019. RIDCC is the premier international duet competition for choreographic talent, with a generous production budget to craft a new performance as the top prize.

Club Guy & Roni guided Asafo in creating this new production. Lubeck speaks on the voice of black artists and exploring identity before the ´product´. We look at how slavery has evolved in today’s society.
